Scratch Resistant Coating
There is no such thing as eyeglass lenses being are scratch-proof. Nor plastic , glass or poloycarboate material can withstand the daily wear of glasses being used. The glasses will be dropped, the glasses will be scratched by putting them into your case, the glasses will certainly be exposed to the wiping of the lens with a microfiber cloth. No matter how hard you are going to work to protect your investment, they will still get scratched
The only way to protect the lenses from scratching is applying what is known as Scratch Resistant Coating. Anti-Scratch as its sometimes called is a process that treats front and back of the lens with an optically clear hard film. These films are made out of materials such as diamond carbon DLC and polycrystalline diamond PCD. The process of ionization creates a thin but extremely durable film on the top of the lens. This durable anti-scratch film is invisible to the naked eye.
The most benifit is for the kids. Kids will throw their glasses around more then anybody. Once lenses get scratched they must be replaced. You can not buff out most deep scratches in lenses. Scratch resistant coatings are typically optional, make sure you add this coating to your lens to protect your investment. Ultraviolet Protection (UV)
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is the most dangerous ray that the sun emits throught solar radiation. UV Rays are an invisible form of radiation. They will slam your retinas at 185,000 miles per second. People protect themselves from these harmfull rays when putting on tanning lotion, or covering their eyes with a tanning bed eye cap, but lots of times people forget that these harmful UV rays can harm the eyes and UV radiation of solar radiation can also affect vision.
If your eyes are exposed to this solar radiation over extended periods of time, the greater the risk of developing serious eye conditions later in life. The conditions that could occur from UV radiation are cataracts , macular degeneration, photokeratitis and pterygium.. Since UV damage builds up extended periods of time, You don't feel the rays, so there is no warning that damage is being done. The need to protect your eyes from these rays when buying your lenses is crutial. The UV protection option is 100% protection and crutial to add to your lens.
Don't forget the protection for children and teenagers is most imporant as they spend more time in the sun than adults.
Anti Relective Protection (UV)
Anti Reflective Coating (Also known as "AR" coating) was developed first to improve view's on high powered telescopes, camera lense and microscopes. AR coating is structured of many layers of metal oxides that are applied to back and front of lenses. This layering process affects the reduction of reflected light and allows more light to actively flow through the lenses.
For eyeglasses lenses it improves the visual aspect appearance of your eyes to the outside world. Anti Reflective Coat makes the lenses seem virtually invisible. The cosmetic appearance is ultimately improved by this coating allowing reduced internal reflections giving the lenses a thin and flat look. Additionaly AR Coating advances the quality of your vision by the reduction of reflected lights. This end up cutting down on annoying glare and the spoty halos around lights AR Coating improves the quality of vision during night time driving and when using computers in work environments. Anti-reflective coating minimizes the glare that you see while driving, as well as glare that others see on your lenses.
Examples Of Anti-Reflective Coating
High-Luster-Edge-Polish
A high luster edge polish is a typical request made by customers who are looking for the best possible finished edge on their rimless and semi-rimless lens. The process requires the most preparation by a skilled lab technician. A well machined polished lens edge can be polished virtually without prior sanding. Edge polishing success is determined when done on a stationary polishing head. Edge polishing is of perference to customers and not everyone enjoy the appearance. For the highest luster finish, we use a fast cutting compound to remove all sanding marks, and then a high luster compound for the final touches.
The steps to bevel, edge and polish or rough cut lens, are best performed with different machines. One machine is used for plastic and polycarbonate lenses, while another machine works on high index lenses. The lense material is very important as the grinding wheels work differently on different lense materials Our ophthalmic lab has the equiptment that is necessary to perform jobs of all lens materials. We never send out work , or outsource any of lens jobs.
Anti Radiation Coating
Anti-Radiation coating also known as EMI coating is designed to be a coating that is conductive which blocks VLF E-field/ELF radiation from damaging your eyes This is a new technology that has been recently introduced to the Ophthalmic field. Electromagnetic fields are blocked by shielding your eyes from and protecting the intercepted radiation path from these waves of radiation. When you add this coating layer to your lenses you will be 100% protected lens from the electromagnetic radiation.
The way optometrists know the coating exists on the lens is by identifying the electric metallic compounds, which enables the lens to be anti-radiation. The coating is clear transparent it will not obstruct your vision field. The Anti Radiation coating also cuts and prevents eye fatigue when on the computer for extended periods of time.
Anti-Fatigue Coating
60% of the population suffers from visual fatigue. Visual fatigue comes from many factors causing discomfort to your eyes. In your every day life, you are dealing with various devices both at work and in your personal life: iPads, Computers, Smart Phones, TV's...etc.. At the end of the day, your eyes are hurting you, they seem heavy and your vision can be blurred, your eyes are making a lot of effort to adapt from one device to another.
Anti-Fatigue Coating has a specific correction at the bottom part of the lens, a sort of boost zone, which helps your eyes focusing more easily. It's added to your current prescription so you can match a good vision and comfortable eyes till the end of the day. Wearer's tests proved that thanks to Anti-Fatigue coating on lenses, visual fatigue is decreased by 50%.
Gradient Lens Tinting
Gradient Lens Tinting is a process that creates your lenses darker at the top and get progressively lighter at the bottom. When complete the lense is fully tinted at the top, and gradually fading to no tint at the bottom.
When a lense is made to be gradient it is available in both gray or brown colors. Gray gradient tinted lenses go great with silver and gunmetal color frames while the brown gradient tint looks studding on gold and copper color frames.
Solid Lens Tinting
Solid Lens Tinting is just that. The process builts a layer of color on the surface of the lens tinting it in either brown or gray. When complete the lense is fully tinted to the color of your choice. The way the process works is by leaving the lenses in a batch of tint solution. The longer they are left in the solution, the darker the tinting gets. The actual lens absorbs the color tint into chemical composition of the lens material. Tint density is defined as a percentage, 0% tint is completely clear with no indication that there is any coating while 100% tint permits absolutley no light to pass through and is a solid tint color.
When a lense is made to be sold it is available in both gray or brown colors. Gray solid tinted lenses go great with silver and gunmetal color frames while the brown solid tint looks studding on gold and copper color frames.
